Welcome to the project page of Bird Feathers: A Guide to North American Species. This project is headed by authors Dave Scott and Casey McFarland, who are currently under contract with Stackpole Books to produce a field guide to North American bird feathers.
At the present time we are enlisting the help of museums, universities, and bird rehabilitation centers in order to bring this much needed field guide to the scientific community and the public.
Objective
The objective of this project is to produce a comprehensive field guide to bird feather identification for North America. A field guide of this type does not currently exist for the North American continent and is a much-needed addition to bird-related resources that are currently available to the scientific community and the public.
When finished, this guide will present itself as an invaluable resource in the identification of feather sign, kill sites, and lone feathers found in the field.
The Project
Bird Feathers: A Guide to North American Species will contain photographs and measurements of a systematic sampling of flight and body feathers from between 400 and 500 bird species found in North America.
This Project is operating under USFWS Permit #MB181249-0 and
WA State Permit #08-225
